A commercial awning project using Safety Components’ WeatherMax outdoor performance fabric received an International Achievement Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Commercial Awnings and Canopies, more than 900 sq. ft. category.

The Industrial Fabrics Association International (IFAI) announced the 2013 International Achievement Awards (IAA) for design excellence in specialty fabric applications during IFAI Specialty Fabrics Expo and Advanced Textiles Conference & Trade Show in October.

WeatherMax FR was used on the Intuit Campus Center, San Jose, in Mountain View, Calif., by Bel Aire Engineering. Four architectural canopies needed to be added to the building, while providing natural light and shelter. The canopies needed to shed water to a drain at the building’s edge to a gutter with little slope. After research, Safety Components WeatherMax was chosen for the job because it had the best hydro test results, while providing a woven fabric look.

IFAI received a total of 236 entries from 13 countries that were submitted for 29 categories in this year’s competition. Winners were selected based on complexity, design, workmanship, uniqueness and function. Judges included industry experts, editors, architects, educators and design professionals who were chosen for their knowledge in a particular field of study or product area.

The International Achievement Awards competition is sponsored by IFAI, a not-for-profit trade association whose 1,800 member companies represent the international specialty fabrics and technical textiles marketplace.
