RIP for RCA Dome

The air supported fabric roof of the RCA Dome (originally called the Hoosier Dome) was deflated and removed in late September 2008 to allow the arena to be demolished. Having served the citizens of Indianapolis, Indiana since 1984 when it opened, the RCA Dome was razed to make room for expansion of the Indiana Convention Center nearby.
Designed by Geiger-Berger Engineers, the two-layer fabric roof was supported by a series of cables and fans and had a perimeter compression ring to take loads. Maximum capacity was 60,500 seats. The facility served as home base for the Indianapolis Colts football team and hosted numerous national and international conventions and trade shows.
