Green roofs and living walls create eco-friendly clothing shop

Mass Studies has out done itself with a cool (literally) flora-covered multi-use building in Seoul.

A blend of natural and artificial, the new Ann Demeulemeester fashion retail shop in the Gangnam district of South Korea’s capitol city brings green building to a new level. Sited on an alley in a neighborhood that has seen rapid upscale development, the building uses green roofs and living walls to cover both external and internal walls, blurring the line between landscape and building. The ground floor is dedicated to the haute couture of the Belgian fashion designer Demeulemeester; second floor is a restaurant, the basement a “Multi-shop.”

The building, which opened in October, uses geotextiles planted with herbaceous perennials to form the living walls, and an extensive green roof system for the roof.
