Ribbon guides visitors through aviation exhibition

Once a fighter station, Duxford Airspace is now home to a large collection of war-time exhibits. The “Flight Path” is an undulating, twisting three-dimensional ribbon, which won an Award of Excellence in the interior banners category of the 2007 International Achievement Awards, that passes down the length of the first-floor gallery to guide visitors from one exhibit to another, seamlessly tying in with the aviation theme of the exhibition at the Imperial War Museum Duxford, Duxford, Chambridgeshire, United Kingdom. The surface of the ribbon also forms a projection screen for audio/visual presentations and a backdrop for effects lighting. The curved frame and purposely out-of-focus silhouettes printed on the banner create the illusion of speeding war planes.
