Colorful clouds decorate architecture office

An office for an architecture firm demands elements that set the space apart from a typical workplace. To enhance the Irvine, Calif. office of Mulvanny G2 Architecture, Transformit installed a fabric piece to create ambiance in the café area. The piece transforms the ceiling into a sky-like scene, with the design conjuring imagery of clouds floating over the space. Installation of the piece was no easy feat, as the ceiling was of standard height with only 40.6cm of depth for the piece below the color-changing lights. The LED lights can be programmed to change colors throughout the day, or for various events that may take place in the space.

Cynthia Thompson, MFA, founder of Transformit, Gorham, Maine, values color just as much as form when developing fabric sculptures. “The use of color is one of the most powerfully emotional techniques available to designers and artists,” she says. Thompson also describes the use of color as “personal” and “soulful.” With that, the colorful clouds are the perfect complement to the architects’ workplace.
