West Coast project to use plants to cover building façade

French architect and 2008 Pritzker Laureate Jean Nouvel’s first project on the West Coast of the United States will be “green” within and out. Located between Century City and Los Angeles, the architect’s luxury condominium building is dubbed the “green blade” for its horizontal bands of foliage that will cover the façade. The project, “10,000 Santa Monica,” is designed to be a landmark building that highlights Los Angeles’s growing reputation as an international center of contemporary art and architecture.

The project is designed to achieve LEED Silver certification through the use of plants on the exterior of the building to reduce the heat island effect, engage the residents with the natural surroundings, and encourage walking within the boundaries of the original Century City, among other methodologies.
