Unileverhaus named “World’s Best Office Building”
Fabric Architecture | September 2010
Dramatically perched on the banks of the Elbe River, Hamburg, Germany, the Behnisch Architekten-designed Unileverhaus recently won the “World’s Best Office Building” award at the World Architecture Festival Awards. The new Unilever headquarters for the company’s Germany, Austria and Switzerland operations features a central atrium and a building that follows the principles of holistic, sustainable architecture.
Of note, in addition to numerous technologies that save resources, integrated into the building’s design is a single-layer ETFE façade that wraps the building’s insulated glazing to protect the daylight-optimized blinds from strong wind and other weather.
