The Lightweight Structures Association of Australasia Conference & Design Awards will take place Nov. 13–15 at the Hilton Hotel in Auckland, New Zealand.

This conference will look at the most efficient use of materials and resources to have a marked effect on our planet, our lives and our future. The goal of the conference is to help to get attendees thinking about building better, building for the environment and living lightly on the land.

Lightweight structures cannot only be light, but they can be relocatable, reusable and recyclable, and offer many sustainable advantages for architects, engineers and developers. Presentations will explore these features.

On Wed., Nov. 13, the LSAA has organized a pre-conference, private visit to the world-renown Alan Gibbs’ Farm, a 1,000-acre sculpture park on New Zealand’s Kaipara Harbour. Since purchasing the site in 1991, Gibbs has commissioned some epic works by Neil Dawson, Anish Kapoor, Richard Serra, Andy Goldsworthy, Leon van den Eijkel and Bernar Venet, among others.

The pre-conference visit, sponsored by Structurflex New Zealand, is limited to the first 50 fully conference paid registrants.

Other conference activities include keynote speakers, networking events, a site visit, the Design Awards presentation dinner, and exhibition.
