A recent exhibition “Mamoru Kawaguchi—Structural Engineer: Innovation and Tradition in Structural Design” opened at the Sala Exposicions of the Universitat Politècnica de València. The exhibition runs through Nov. 17, 2009. Kawaguchi is a leader in the field of structural conception and design.

The exhibition is organized around a set of 30 models from the office of Kawaguchi & Engineers and grouped in seven categories representing structural innovations including pneumatic, membrane and timber structures. Two of the categories include works designed in collaboration with the architects Kenzo Tange and Arata Isozaki.

The exhibition coincides with the 50th anniversary of the IASS (International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures) and its annual Symposium. The IASS was chaired by Kawaguchi in the 1990s and early 2000s.
