Winterizing the sauna
October 12, 2009 | Bruce N. Wright
Found this interesting project on the international design and architecture portal called Architonic of a membrane-clad floating pool and sauna in Berlin. This is just another example of the nearly infinite possibilities of using fabric and textiles to enclose space. The design by architect Thomas Freiwald uses laminated wood trusses in the shape of ellipses spaced at regular intervals with the space between the trusses stretched with a double layer (inside and outside edges of the trusses) of clear and white translucent membrane for a thermally efficient system.
