Plaza Barena, Lima, Peru, consists of a circular platform and a connected mezzanine. To define and integrate both spaces, Comercial Industrial Delta designed a covering, which won an Outstanding Achievement Award in the tensile structures, 6,000-25,000 sq. ft. category of the 2008 International Achievement Awards, with posts, cables and membranes, creating a sculptural and dynamic square in the middle of the boulevard. The most important challenge was to design a space that not only demands attention for its sculptural form, but also invites people to enjoy the space. The area could not lose its public function, but had to be more than just a traffic thoroughfare. The result is a fluid space between the mezzanine and the central bar located in the low platform, which successfully continues the visual impact of integration with its surroundings.
