The story of “W,” a hotel façade

News | May 1, 2012 | By:

The main lobby of the new W Hoboken Hotel and Residences, Hoboken, N.J., sends a modern and sophisticated message to guests with a floor-to-ceiling metal mesh façade framing the welcome desk. Flexible stainless steel metal fabric panels wrap the entire lobby wall and reflect cool purple-colored light back to visitors seeking accommodations, nightlife or a chic resting spot between meetings.

The metal fabric system—from Cambridge Architectural—features a new attachment method, allowing metal fabric panels up to 18m to be installed in tension, but much closer to the wall, using the unique Micro-Eclipse attachment system. Custom-cut apertures receive the metal fabric ends in tubing integrated into a bracket and structural support design, with tube sizes appropriate to emphasize or conceal the attachment, as the design dictates.
