A stylish pergola, aglow

KE Outdoor Design’s retractable pergola is aglow with lighting that is part of the design. The textile panels can be retracted using a smartphone or tablet app to adjust quickly to changing weather. Photos: KE Outdoor Design.

Cool and contemporary, a new retractable pergola system showcases a sleek, linear style by integrating lighting as a key element. Gennius Vega, designed by the Italian shading components and systems maker KE Outdoor Design, features LED lights inserted along the pergola’s guides and posts, outlining the structure’s form. LED lights are also placed on the inside to accent the height and aluminum profiles.

The simple, sleek shape is maintained in other aspects of the structure—the gutters, posts, joining brackets and screws remain invisible to the eye.

The Vega consists of three modules, measuring up to 42 feet, 8 inches by 23 feet. It can be fitted with lateral and frontal drop-down solar screens in a variety of fabrics. Options include clear, filtering and darkening to meet specific lighting requirements.

The pergola is easily customized with a choice of colors for the structure and fabrics. New fabric can be installed without screws or changes to the structure itself. The fabrics offer protection from harmful UV rays and reduce overheating. When the weather turns cooler, heat dispersion is reduced, allowing for room temperature control.
