The annual IMM Cologne International Interiors Show, held each January, offers a first peek at the trends in interior design for the coming year. More than 1,300 exhibitors from around the world display an exciting and diverse variety of furniture and designs.

At the 2018 show, Stylepark AG, the Frankfurt-based online platform for architectural products, wanted to showcase the 20 most interesting innovations of the show in a unique way. The company engaged the Munich design studio Relvão Kellermann to create Stylepark Selected, an exhibit at the Museum of Applied Art Cologne featuring the 2018 show winners as 3-D holograms.

The dramatic display was built in the large hall of the museum. Relvão Kellermann enlisted Frankfurt-based textile designer Nya Nordiska to help create a backdrop for the holograms. The result: a darkened exhibition space using floor-length curtains.

For the darkening effect, Nordiska created curtains made of Oscuro FR. The soft lining, made of 100 percent polyester, has a look and feel almost like suede. It has a darkening rate of 99.9 percent—even in white. The fabric was paired with the taffeta Mirca CS.

Ceiling-high fabric columns formed a structured space to display the holograms. They were hung using the Quattro system, which consists of a multifunctional rail and panel tracks.

The space was transformed into a welcoming environment that invited people to enter and linger. Against this backdrop, 3-D holograms of the show’s 20 most-inspired innovations seemed to spring to life. For more information, visit www.nya.com.
