On October 13-16, 2023, the 8th National Member Congress and the 18th National Space Structure Technology Exchange Conference of China Association for Spatial Structure of China Steel Construction Association were successfully held in Shanghai, and the 30th anniversary celebration of China Association for Spatial Structure was grandly held. Nearly 600 delegates from universities, research institutes, design and construction units from all over the country attended the meeting, and more than 15,000 people watched the online live broadcast and nearly 900,000 people watched the picture live broadcast.
On the morning of October 14, the opening ceremony of the conference was presided over by Professor Wu Jinzhi, Secretary General of China Association for Spatial Structure and Beijing University of Technology. Professor Xue Suduo, Chairman of China Association for Spatial Structure and Beijing University of Technology delivered an opening speech. Professor Yue Qingrui, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of China Steel Construction Association, and Professor Du Xiuli, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Beijing University of Technology, spoke on behalf of the association and the supporting units of the association, Liu Qianwei, Chief Engineer of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, and Wang Pingshan, Executive Deputy Chief Engineer of Arcplus Group PLC, delivered speeches on behalf of the housing construction committee, the organizer and supporting units, and jointly congratulated the successful convening of the conference.
The celebration of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of China Association for Spatial Structure was presided over by Professor Li Xiongyan of Beijing University of Technology, Deputy Secretary-General of China Association for Spatial Structure. The celebration included three parts: review and blessing, the release of a series of books on spatial structure, and the appointment ceremony of specially invited experts and senior consultants.
The review of the short film “Entrepreneurship throughout Thirty Years, Pinnacle Success at This Moment” kicked off the 30th anniversary celebration, and the participants reviewed the 30-year development history of China Association for Spatial Structure. Professor Shen Shizhao, one of the founders of the association, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Harbin Institute of Technology, sent blessings by video.
Liu Yi, Executive Vice President of China Steel Structure Association, delivered a speech on behalf of the association, congratulating China Association for Spatial Structure on its achievements in the past 30 years. Li Guimei, President of China Nonwovens and Industrial Textiles Association, delivered a speech on behalf of the fraternal association, wishing China Association for Spatial Structure another brilliant achievement. Many leaders and experts of fraternal associations and chapters came in person or sent congratulatory letters, inscriptions and blessings.
In order to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of China Association for Spatial Structure, the conference invited Academician Dong Shilin, Academician Yue Qingrui, Executive Vice President Liu Yi, Chairman Xue Suduo, former Chairman Zhang Yigang and Master Yu Yinquan to jointly release a series of books on spatial structure.
Subsequently, the association invited Professor Li Guoqiang of Tongji University, Professor Fan Feng of Harbin Institute of Technology, Chief Engineer Li Jiulin of Beijing Urban Construction Group, and Professor Zheng Fang of Beijing Jiaotong University as invited experts of China Association for Spatial Structure, and Zhong Xianhua and Geng Xiaobing, former executive directors of the association, as senior consultants.
The 8th National Member Congress and the 1st Council of the 8th China Association for Spatial Structure were presided over by Sun Guojun, Deputy Secretary-General of China Association for Spatial Structure and Associate Professor Sun Guojun of Beijing University of Technology. Professor Xue Suduo, Chairman of the association, made a report on the work of the seventh council, and Professor Wu Jinzhi, Secretary General of the association, explained the revision of the work regulations of China Association for Spatial Structure and the method of changing the council of the board.
Executive Vice President Liu Yi presided over the renewal of the board of directors of China Association for Spatial Structure, elected the eighth council composed of 170 units, elected 58 executive directors, and elected Xue Suduo as Chairman of the eighth council of China Association for Spatial Structure, Cai Lei, Han Qinghua, Hu Hongzhi, Huang Dada, Li Yaming, Li Zhongzhong, Tang Haojun, Zhang Qilin, Zhou Guangen, Zhu Zhongyi and other 10 as vice presidents, and Wu Jinzhi as Secretary General. Chairman Xue Suduo presided over the first standing council of the eighth session of China Association for Spatial Structure held subsequently, discussed the work priorities of the current Council, and invited Professor Li Xiongyan and Associate Professor Sun Guojun as Deputy secretary-general of the association.
The conference invited Academician Dong Shilin, Academician Yue Qingrui of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Li Guoqiang, Foreign Academician of the Belgian Royal Flemish Academy of Sciences and Arts, Yu Yinquan, Feng Yuan, Ding Jiemin, Master Zhu Zhongyi, Vice President of Harbin Institute of Technology and other experts to make 25 wonderful conference reports. He Mingxuan, Huo Wenying, and others presided over the report of the conference.
On the morning of October 15, the conference arranged 3 sub-venues according to the three themes of grid structure, cable structure and membrane structure, with a total of 47 sub-venue reports, including the latest progress in space structure theory, computational analysis, experiment, design, production and installation.
On the afternoon of the 15th, the conference closed, and the closing ceremony was presided over by Sun Guojun, Deputy Secretary General of China Association for Spatial Structure. Secretary General Wu Jinzhi introduced the review process of “Technology Innovation Award” and “Innovation Talent Award” of China Steel Construction Association and read out the list of proposed winners, and Xue Suduo, Chairman of the association, presented the honor book to the proposed award-winning units.
The conference was organized by Beijing University of Technology, Arcplus Group PLC, Tongji University, The spatial structure Research Center of Shanghai, and Shanghai Jianke Aluminum Research Institute. The leaders of the association presented gifts to the organizers and supporting units.
Professor Zhang Yigang, former chairman of the association, made a wonderful summary for the conference: the conference has a large number of participants, the change of the council is a complete success, the technical exchanges are full and enthusiastic, and the association team continues to grow; it is expected that the association will join hands with all member units, closely follow the major national development strategy, work around smart city and low-carbon goals, seize opportunities and be brave in innovation; adhere to the leading role of the platform, actively undertake the management responsibilities of industry organizations, and further promote the healthy development of the industry.
On the morning of the 16th, the participants visited Shanghai Stadium renovation project and the Greenhouse of Shanghai World Expo Cultural Park.
Shanghai Stadium, also known as the “80,000 Stadium”, was put into use in 1997 and is a space tube truss system, which has been used for more than 20 years. In this reconstruction, on the basis of the original 65m cantilever, the roof continued to extend forward by 16.5m, and the cantilevered span reached 81.5m after the reconstruction, which is the first project at home and abroad to use the cable bearing system to extend the existing structure in a large proportion of the cantilever structure.
The Shanghai World Expo Greenhouse project base covers an area of about 46,996.27 square meters, and the maximum span of the roof is about 50m. For the first time, the roof adopts a suspended or open-string honeycomb grid alloy structure system, realizing an indoor column-free open space. The façade adopts the integrated linkage design of the structural curtain wall, which reduces the level of components and maximizes the permeability of the building. The combination of high-strength materials is used to meet the needs of lighting, anti-corrosion and structural stress in the botanical garden. For the first time, a large section closed aluminum alloy section was adopted.
