Winners of a competition to redesign strip malls were announced by the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, Scottsdale, Arizona. Launched by the museum in late 2007 to inspire the redesign of aging malls, the “Flip a Strip” competition invited 10 national firms to participate and received 15 open call design firm submissions, including this proposal by Miller Hull Partnership of Seattle, Washington, of a series of suspended planted trays. The project received a Merit Award for its sustainable design.
