A design competition for enlivening the streets of NYC picks a winner—with fabric!
As April’s showers fade, May will bring more than flowers to New York when the Festival of Ideas for the New City takes place downtown from May 4 to 8. The winning concept in a competition to re-imagine sidewalk tents, called the “StreetFest”, was selected by competition sponsor Storefront for Art and Architecture. Online design journal The Architect’s Newspaper reports that the winning design team is a collaboration of the young firms Family and PlayLab, whose design resembles the coiled springs of a Slinky, but 10 feet high and wrapped in brightly-colored parachute fabric.
