Light-filtering awnings enhance a view

It’s all about the view when your apartment is located in the town of Teramo on the slopes of Italy’s Gran Sasso, the highest mountain in the Apennines range. Panoramic ceiling-to-floor windows installed in each room take advantage of the landscape. There’s only one problem: All that spectacular scenery and light also comes with the heat and glare of the sun, especially since the living area has a southern exposure.

The apartment owner turned to Fabbi Tende, the local dealer of the Italian shading company KE Outdoor Designs, for a solution that would allow maximum natural light while providing protection from the sun’s rays. The customer wanted vertical outdoor awnings that would provide shade and modulate the light from the expanse of windows without impacting her view. She also wanted a design that complemented her modern furnishings.

In keeping with the design specs, Fabbi chose KE Outdoor Designs’ Screeny 110 GC awning. It features an exposed stainless steel cable and a square-lined cassette for an elegant, industrial look.

The roll awning is available with a wide range of blackout or filtering fabrics. It also comes with a choice of a square or round cassette, patented by BAT, and can be mounted on a wall or ceiling.

The customer can easily control the amount of natural light in the room using the awning’s Somfy motorized system connected to a wind sensor. For more information, visit www.keoutdoordesign.com.
