G & J Awning purchases Hoigaard’s Custom Canvas and Awning

News | June 1, 2018 | By:

Gary Buermann and Beth Brenny, owners of G & J Awning, have announced the purchase of Hoigaard’s Custom Canvas and Awning, Plymouth, Minn. Hoigaard’s, an awning manufacturer, was founded 120 years ago and was one of fourteen companies that founded Industrial Fabrics Association International (IFAI) in 1912.

Approximately six months ago Buermann and Brenny, co-owners of G & J Awning, became aware of the opportunity to purchase Hoigaard’s Custom Canvas and Awnings, and the details were worked out over several months.

“G & J Awning has been in business for over 40 years and is always looking for new innovative ways to manufacture awnings or to expand its business,” noted Buermann. In 2001, G & J Awning purchased JW Hulme Awning and merged their business with G & J Awning. At the time of the merger, JW Hulme was 100 years old.

Unlike the acquisition of Hulme Awning, Hoigaard’s will remain a separate company. Brenny will serve as president of Hoigaard’s Custom Canvas & Awnings, and Buermann will serve as vice president.

“We are very excited about this business and happy that all of the current Hoigaard’s Custom Canvas and Awning employees are staying on in this adventure. The history and experience between G & J Awning and Hoigaard’s Custom Canvas and Awnings is 260 years,” said Brenny. Buermann added, “We are proud of the knowledge legacy of these two companies and pleased to have the opportunity to nurture and expand two strong custom canvas businesses in the upper Midwest.”
