Birdair announces global restructuring

News | November 1, 2020 | By:

Birdair Inc., a specialty contractor for custom tensile membrane structures, has announced an international reorganization as it expands its worldwide presence through its network of organizations. A subsidiary of the Taiyo Corporation in Japan, Birdair—along with a number of MakMax Group affiliates—has completed more than 1,300 tensile architectural projects in more than 30 countries and six continents.

To support the transition, Birdair recently added to its U.S. presence by opening a Los Angeles-based office to complement its North American headquarters in Buffalo, N.Y., and give the company comprehensive coast-to-coast coverage.

“Over the course of Birdair’s 60-year history, nearly 20 percent of our business has been derived from the west coast of the United States,” said Hikaru Konno, president of Birdair. “Our new Los Angeles footprint builds on our existing west coast presence to accommodate those customers, while still maintaining close relationships along the east coast with our Buffalo headquarters. Our founder, Walter Bird, constructed the first permanent membrane structure not supported by air in Laverne, Calif., in 1973. To have that same PTFE glass-fabric specified on our new Los Angeles office just down the road is a rewarding bookend to that innovation.”

The combined restructuring and new west coast location will enable Birdair to collaborate more closely with its subsidiaries across the world. Birdair has announced it will assume operation of its Munich office in an effort to expand in European markets, in addition to growing its U.S. footprint. To support its increasing global presence, Birdair recently launched a new website that reflects the international breadth of its projects and corporate partners. The website showcases all of Birdair’s signature projects, including the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Ga.; the United States Embassy in London, UK; Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, Qatar; and hundreds of custom tensile structures around the world.

A full-service design-build contractor, Birdair features a comprehensive range of pre-construction services including design assistance, budgeting, construction methodologies and project schedule development. Birdair’s in-house capabilities include design development, engineering, fabrication, construction (installation) and service and warranty services. More information is available at www.birdair.com.
