Code Council to offer Cloud-based electronic plan submittal technology

News | October 1, 2013 | By:

The International Code Council (ICC) and Avolve Software Corp. have entered into an agreement that gives the ICC a “Powered by Avolve” cloud-based technology platform for its digital plan review services.

The agreement marks a major step in the Code Council’s efforts to leverage technology for greater efficiency and improved services for its members and customers. The ICC’s online electronic plan review service (ePlan) is scheduled to begin in early 2014.

“Online plan submission and review is quickly becoming the norm in the building safety industry because of the cost efficiency, speed, accuracy and convenience it provides,” said ICC CEO Dominic Sims. “Our association is pursuing digital business transformation aggressively, and the power of ePlan technology can be applied to a number of current and future ICC services. Partnering with Avolve gives us the platform and expertise to integrate ePlan review into our business operations.”

Avolve Software Corp., an ICC corporate member since 2008, pioneered the ProjectDox® ePlan software that is currently used by many ICC member jurisdictions in the United States and Canada. The Cloud-based operations will allow the Code Council to receive plan review projects online 24/7, and collaborate with architects, contractors and code officials with plans and documents in real time. Avolve will manage the technology infrastructure and work with the ICC on joint go-to-market sales and service development strategies.

“This innovative technology streamlines the Code Council’s ability to provide comprehensive and consistent plan review services to our members,” said ICC board of directors president Ronald Piester, AIA. “Jurisdictions under stress due to disaster recovery and insufficient staffing can leverage this new technology so Code Officials can dedicate more time to safety issues, inspections and other important duties.”

The International Code Council is a member-focused association. It is dedicated to developing model codes and standards used in the design, build and compliance process to construct safe, sustainable, affordable and resilient structures. Most U.S. communities and many global markets choose the International Codes.
