The purpose of this project, which won an Outstanding Achievement Award in the retractable awnings category of the 2007 International Achievement Awards, was to provide shelter for patrons of the Interbay Golf Course café, Seattle, Wash., on rainy days, extending the season for outdoor seating. The project is unique because it provides a fully retractable shelter that can withstand a substantial amount of wind and rain. This is the first project combining the retractable “Shield Plus” system and the “Shy Zip” vertical shade, providing a weatherproof solution—even in Seattle.
