Chesterfield Awning Co. Inc. South Holland, Ill., United States

After Macy’s bought out Marshall Field’s, the historic Marshall Field’s Building on State Street in downtown Chicago, Ill. was in need of new awnings to match the company’s new identity. The awnings, which won an Award of Excellence in the retractable awnings category of the 2007 International Achievement Awards, were reconfigured to match the look of the original awnings on the building when it was first built in the early 1900s. The 38 awnings are retractable, with custom-casted brass hinges, powder-coated elbows, galvanized pipe arms, Weathertyte fabric, and 680R2 CMO motors. Trademarked Macy’s logos were painted using Nazdar’s industrial line of paint, and the awnings were fitted with an outrigger-style arm with chain safety to match the original awning configuration.
