Delft-based design firm, cepezed, has proposed creating a temporary 5,000-seat theater for the forecourt lawn of The Hague in The Netherlands for that city’s bid to be the European Capital of Culture 2018. Other cities in the running include Utrecht, Maastricht and Almere. According to the designers, their arena is designed as a contemporary version of the Colosseum, Rome. To be built with a stretched fabric cover over scaffolding, the design features the graphics of M.C. Escher’s Metamorfosis wrapping the entire façade. Final selection of a city for the cultural event will not take place until 2013.
