Architect education at IFAI Expo 2015

IFAI Expo, Oct. 6–9 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif., is featuring three days of architect education. The content was created specifically to teach architects about how they can use fabric in their designs. Selected sessions are accredited by The American Institute of Architects, and AIA members who attend are eligible for credit.

Wednesday, October 7
8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Incorporating Fabric Into Design
Teaches architects the advantages and process of incorporating fabrics into their projects. Delve into real-life projects and learn proper fabric selection, design considerations and the next steps to designing a fabric structure. This program is co-organized with the Fabric Structures Association (FSA), a division of IFAI.

Thursday, October 8
8:00 a.m. – 8:45 a.m.
Fabric Structures Code Matrix
Tutorial of Matrix created by the Fabric Structures Association (FSA) to illustrate the regulatory requirements for the fabric structures industry. Types of fabric structures include air-inflated, air-supported, cable net, frame-supported, geodesic dome, grid shell, tensegrity (cable-and strut) and tensile (or tension) structures.

Friday, October 9
8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
Fabric Structures: Where to Begin, Presented by the Fabric Structures Association
This course gives an overview of the fabric structures industry, covering today’s materials and their advantages compared to traditional building materials.

9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
Expanding Your Knowledge of Awnings, Canopies and other Shade Structures, Presented by the Professional Awning Manufacturers Association
This course covers material, design, engineering, and installation aspects of shade structures and includes detailed case studies. Architectural elements presented are awnings, canopies, screens, panels, banners and shade sails.
